India is one of the most beguiling and photogenic countries in the world. Faces of India takes the reader on a personal photographic journey through the country and presents an in-depth view of the myriad faces and expressions of this vast continent. Each page is an explosion of colour and pageantry, with glimpses of life in all its profusion and diversity. Here are the proud, turbaned maharajahs and the bearded village sadhus, the smiling children and the bright yellows, greens and brilliant oranges of the women's saris, shimmering against the pale brown landscape. The photographer, Peter Spira, has spent many years journeying through India, and has built up an enviable collection of images that capture, in his words, 'the natural dignity and pride' of the Indian people.
