Sensors and Optics

This 16.2 Megapixel camera is powered by EXPEED 2 image-processing engine and features a DX-format CMOS image sensor which enables you to capture high-resolution images with excellent expression of tones. The camera also features ISO settings between 100 – 6400, which allows you to capture beautiful images even in low lighting conditions. This also lets you capture rapidly moving subjects with high quality and minimal blur. Its revolutionary High Dynamic Range (HDR) function captures two shots of varying exposure each time the shutter-release button is pressed, and then combines the two shots into a single image with a broad dynamic range. These two images are then combined to create a scene as if seen with the naked eye. This comes in very handy when shooting backlit scenes with minimal loss of details in highlights or shadows.

Body and Design

The Nikon D5100 features a vari-angle monitor which offers a wide viewing angle and increased visibility. Its 3-inch screen neatly packs 921k-dot which can reproduce a range of colours that is equivalent to a sRGB gamut. This unique monitor opens from 0 – 180° to the side and can be rotated up to 90° clockwise and up to 180° counter-clockwise. This will help you take beautiful self portraits or enable shooting from a range of angles.
This camera's D-Movie function enables recording of high-definition movies with ease. You can capture videos in 1920 x 1080 pixels at 30fps. It also features contrast-detect AF function, which allows you to autofocus during video shooting. Its in-camera movie editing functions lets you save a single frame as a still JPEG image or delete redundant portions from the beginning and/or end of movie.

You can view images for play videos on a high definition TV by connecting it to your camera using built-in HDMI-CEC compatibility. The 1030 mAh, Li-ion EN-EL14 battery provides un-interrupted shooting for up to 660 shots. Weighing at only 509 grams, this camera can be easily tucked in to a bag pack or a purse. A perfect camera for the starters with a few extra-ordinary features.The large and high resolution monitor gives amazing picture and subject quality.With some really good inbuilt special effects,D5100 is a good buy.I feel incomplete if I step out without the camera.

I gifted the amazing Nikon D5100 to one of my friends on his birthday. It comes with a side-mounted screen that is adjustable. The D5100, according to me, is an incredible choice and both new DSLR users and also all experienced photo enthusiasts can confidently upgrade their D3000 to for getting those additional megapixels, speed of video processing. All these various features preferred by the wide range of DSLRs of Nikon make it difficult to pick between them, however this particular kit lens boasts of quite a few unique features which are all packed into an extremely sleek and lightweight, inexpensive piece.

The D5100 is a member of the most sought after SLRs of Nikon. I recently bought one of this and my first impression is that it's simply a remarkable camera that every enthusiast photographer should own as it's a small, easy to handle, lightweight camera which offers excellent quality images. The D5100's performance in low light is simply amazing. The most interesting aspect of this camera is it is extremely flexible as well as versatile.
We can shoot in both Auto as well as Shutter priority as these features offer better control. However, the manual mode offers better control and advanced users of experience photographers can take advantage of this feature. It has also got a flip LCD. Basically it's a product that is less expensive and packed with a plethora of remarkable features!

My heart truly missed a beat as I laid my hands on the sleek and the most desirable cameras from the Nikon stable. DSLR D5100 truly a camera to own and use. I took it out on a Sunday drive into the nearby jungle and found that it shoots simply great and captures the myriad jungle details. I was awestruck. It is the perfect choice for people like me wanting high quality pictures at affordable prices. This camera boasts of having 16 megapixel lens and it is possible to shoot 4 frames in one second with this SLR. The kit lens offers an amazing performance and image quality.
This Kit lens is the member of the highly popular D5000 series of Nikon SLRs and is meant for the people who are enthused about photography both for professionals and amateur photographers like me. It is an extremely compact piece with a soft and firm hand grip.
Nikon DSLR D5100 comes with a variety of dust-protective features like airflow control, and alike., thus offering spotless images each and every time and also boosting the image sensor's life. Shooting birds was a great experience with this camera. I chanced on a small waterfall and took amazing pictures of all the animals that came to this watering hole. This kit lens is also equipped with an in-camera filter with editing effects which can be used both in the still as well as video mode. Another interesting feature that this product boasts of is its self-timer with the setting options that range from 2-20 seconds allowing people to be part of the photographs.
One can get a continual shooting speed along with a highly Active day-lighting with this camera. This SLR is packed with a plethora of remarkable features and special effects that can be used while still pictures are being taken or even while recording.
