Description

Synopsis

Target 3 Billion: Innovative Solutions Towards Sustainable Development is a book which discusses the issues faced in rural India and talks about measures to address these issues. The aim of the discussion is to improve the standard of living of India’s Rural population through focussing on the inclusive development project PURA (Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas). Voluntary campaigns like entrepreneurship and community participation are held up as examples of voluntary campaigns which can help the rural poor improve their lot.

Brazilian social worker Fabio Rosa’s example is cited in the book Target 3 Billion: Innovative Solutions Towards Sustainable Development as a model which can successfully be emulated in India. Fabio Rosa was instrumental in developing Palmares, a rural region in Brazil and facilitating rural electrification there. The region was able to grow and prosper due to the availability of water and electricity in the region. The book also talks about the Magarpatta city which now boasts of an IT park and houses 35000 people.
