Very nice product from Western Digital, but make sure you have a fast internet connection at home, to enjoy it to the fullest.
Amazing 1080p Videos can be played back. Plays my entire collection over LAN /Wireless / and connected harddrive.
Very slow when it makes media library when a HardDisk is connected. Hangs most of the time when media scanning is going on.Not suited for technology backward people.
It is a very good DLNA/upnp client. No hanging here since DLNA/upnp server makes the media library.(Although I couldn't get the subtitles to work. Might be some seeting I've missed) Streaming through wifi doesnot have any lag. Android and ios remote app available to control the player when all are connected to the same network .
The performance expected at this price is very bad. It is very slow and buggy product while using local Media. It is good for AV enthusiasts who want optical audio out and network streaming player.
The most of the features are present in good 32 inches and above LED TVs
Using WDTV First GEN since last 4 Yrs and upgraded today to WDTV LIVE..Really impressed with WDTV quality and interface..A must buy for home entertainment..
This is an excellent product. It plays videos and audio files of almost any format, either through the HDMI cable and/or through the cable supplied that can be connected to your audio receiver. This makes it possible to play only audio, by switching off the TV (once you start playing. To start, you need your TV to see what you're doing).
It also seamlessly plays audio/video/photos/online radio through the network.
The online radio, youtube supports, etc also work flawlessly. If a USB is connected, it also shows up on your windows machine, making it extremely easy to transfer data in/out of it.
A few small drawbacks:
1. When you move through photos/songs through the network, there is a small delay before it actually goes to the next one. This probably can't be avoided.
2. If your audios are in folders, then once the folder is played, it does not go to the next folder automatically. I see this as the biggest drawback.
