Daal (pulses) makes an Indian meal wholesome and nutritious. It is one of the few components of a vegetarian meal that provides protein, which is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood. Thus, it is critical for healthy growth of children. Your contribution of Daal, coupled with the government supplied rice and wheat, will be used to serve freshly cooked hot mid-day meals to underprivileged children studying in government or government aided schools.

Akshaya Patra runs the world's largest mid-day meal program for children studying in government or government aided schools in 11 states of India. Based on their vast experience over last 16+ years and having served more than a billion meals till now, Akshaya Patra estimates suggest that the average cost of Daal per mid-day meal comes to around Rs. 1.50 only.

The Daal donated by you will be delivered to an Akshay Patra Kitchen(s). It would be used for preparing fresh hot meals for children studying at Akshay Patra partner schools, as part of their mid-day meals program.

What is the guarantee that my donation reaches Akshaya Patra and kids?

Our partnership with Akshaya Patra is official and is mentioned on their website: At the end of every month, Akshaya Patra sends us feedback reports on the status of your donations and we share that with all our donors. We also keep you updated upon successful delivery of your contributed daal to Akshaya Patra?s kitchens.

Who validates quality and pricing of daal ? How Chana dal is available at price lesser than usual market rates ?

Akshaya Patra has done due diligence to validate the vendor and quality, pricing of the Chana Daal. Multiple orders made to the approved vendor during the One Million Meals initiative supports in optimizing the procurement cost.

When will Akshaya Patra receive my donated Daal, and when will the children be served their meals?

Your donated Daal is expected to be delivered to an Akshaya Patra kitchen(s) within a week of your placing the order. You shall be informed about the exact status of your donation via email. Akshaya Patra shall subsequently use this Daal to prepare and serve fresh hot meals as part of their on-going mid-day meals program for children studying in government and government-aided schools.

Can I claim tax exemption through these donations?

As per the Government rules, product donations are not covered under tax exemptions.

What is meant by Huawei matching contributions?

Huawei has pledged to match the amount of donation received from each and every donor (in equivalent Rupees, totalling up to a max of Rs. 89 Lakh only). The matched amount will be consolidated at the end of the campaign and donated to The Akshaya Patra Foundation, which will use it to support its world's largest school meal program. For example, if you donated Daal worth Rs. 750/- to support 500 meals, then Huawei will also match the valued amount of your contribution and donate Rs. 750/- to Akshaya Patra. This donated amount from Huawei would be used by Akshaya Patra for supporting many of its ongoing activities or projects. It may or may not be used for procuring Daal.

Does the number of meals supported shown on the campaign page includes the contribution by Huawei?

Yes, the number of meals supported is the sum of meals donated by people and by Huawei.
