Born in 2005, Malsawm(which means blessing) was the first child of Mr. Pauzagin and Mrs. Dondouching. He was born with nerve atrophy and grew up with visual impairment. He left for his heavenly abode on April 23, 2016 completing his earthly journey. Malsawm did not see a thing nor spoke a word in his short lived life, but he became an inspiration and light of hope for hundreds of such children with special needs.
Malsawm’s journey became different because very soon after his birth, his parents realized the absence of a reliable institution that could cater to their needs. Hence, along with rest of the community members, they initiated Centre for Community Initiative (CCI) to focus primarily on disability through several projects including –
(a) The Malsawm Initiative (TMI)- With a vision to create a just and accommodating society, TMI - A School for Children with Special Needs was opened that brings together children with different disabilities under one roof. The school’s primary focus is on behaviour modification, cognitive, language, social and vocational skills with therapeutic services including physiotherapy, speech therapy and mobility training.
(b) Home Based Care (HBC) - Where UN Volunteers and CCI staff go and provide services in the homes of people with disabilities. The faculty and teachers of TMI pay a visit once or twice a week to provide services like physiotherapy, speech therapy or special education. CCI seeks your support to run initiatives for betterment of the society. The below mentioned items shall be helpful for our various on-going projects.
