Description

Automotive Mechanics introduces the readers to the basic principles of all automotive systems and components, and also details their construction, operation and troubleshooting options. Summary Of The Book The automotive industry has undergone tremendous changes over the past few years. The changes have primarily been on two accounts, the challenge of foreign automotive manufacturers and the influence of the Federal laws passed by the Congress governing automotive safety, fuel economy and air pollution. These factors have forced automotive manufactures across the world to develop new vehicles that are both light and fuel efficient. This has also led to manufacturers competing among themselves to adopt a number of innovations while manufacturing vehicles such as antilock braking systems (ABS), onboard diagnostics, distributorless ignition systems, supplemental restraint systems (air bags), and sequential port fuel injection. The new edition of Automotive Mechanics provides the reader with the latest developments in the field of automotive operation, design, construction, diagnosis, and service. It has been completely rewritten to blend both the new and the old aspects related to the automotive industry. The text has been completely rewritten to include shorter sentences and simpler explanations that improve the overall readability of the book. The new developments have been supplemented with a number of illustrations and many of the chapters include vocabulary words and review questions. ASE-type multiple-choice questions have also been added. The intention of all this is to enable the reader in gaining a thorough understanding of the concepts. Some of the topics in the book are Engine Lubricating Systems, Piston-Engine Operation, Valves and Valve Trains, Automotive Suspension Systems, Ventilation, Heating, and Air Conditioning, Engine Test Equipment and Tuneup, and Carburetors. Automotive Mechanics includes common specifications and sample service procedures giving the reader an understanding of how automotive manufacturers, master technicians and service instructors recommend the performance of the various diagnostic and service procedures. An attempt has been made to include the use of the vehicle's scan tools, onboard diagnostics, and the latest computerized automotive testing and servicing tools. It also covers the subjects that appear in the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) certification tests. About The Authors William H. Crouse was a technical writer and author. Another book written by him is Automotive Electrical Equipment. He started writing in 1932 while working for General Motors.
