Ardhanareshwara - Beautiful Hand painted in the Madhubani style. One of the several forms of Shiva, showing aspects of both - man and woman. The female half denotes Shakti in the form of Parvati and the male half reflects Shiva. In one way Ardhnareshwara incorporates the synthesis of opposites and at the same time it integrates the opposites to show that they complement each other. Parvati is the cause of arousal of desires which she expresses through different postures of Laasya. Shiva tends to destroy this through Taandava dance. It is only when Shiva is united with Shakti that he acquires the capability of becoming the universal lord. Ardhanareshwara also reflects that in Indian tradition woman enjoys equal status with man. Madhubani painting or Mithila painting is a style of Indian painting, practiced in the Mithila region of Bihar state, India. Painting is done with fingers ,Nib-pens, twigs and matchsticks.
