Description

The White Tiger is a novel written by the Indian writer Arvind Adiga. This is a novel where the narrator presents himself as Balram Halwai and it is through his eyes that the hypocrisy of the Indian society's class struggle in an otherwise globalized world has been vividly depicted in a humorous way.

Synopsis

The story starts as a flashback that unfolds the life of Balram Halwai, the narrator of this story. The plot unwraps itself with the letter that Balram writes in seven consecutive nights and the letter is addressed to the Chinese Premier, named Wen Jiabao. The story that he narrates is that of a poor servant who had come to a city from a rural set-up in search of a job. The story depicts how he manages to escape from his state of servitude and becomes successful in starting a business that eventually brings him wealth and glory.

The White Tiger also focuses on factors like poverty, class distinction, religious fanaticism, caste discrimination and other issues that mire the Indian society. In this story, Balram leaves his rural place to come to Delhi in search of a job. There, he works as a chauffeur before he actually steals his master's money, kills him and then leaves for Bangalore. Bangalore takes him to the zenith of his career as it is where he begins working as an entrepreneur and gradually achieves success in this field.
