Tried my hand with this. Was amazed with this beauty.Love this beauty. Only issue is that at the lowest aperture F 1.8 to 2.2 image is quite.blurry .Above F2.2 things are fantastic. Auto focus is kind of vat on the wall.I find manual focus to be more precise in some situations. Still one AWESOME PIECE OF.GLASS for every one

This is the best lens for Portrait and portrait only, it's not all purpose lens so, if you are buying this to use as all purpose lens, please don't. If you want all purpose lens, then go for 70-200 f2.8 nikon (however it would be way out of budget). About this lens. DOF at 1.8G is awesome, however picture loose some sharpness, however at 2.0 and above it's good.

Satisfied with requirement and the budget

I own this lens which works perfectly with my D5100. Since it is FX format lens, cropping will happen while using with DX format cameras like D3000/3100/5100/D90/D7000 etc. But good thing is that, you will get sharpest image while cropping the aberrant sides and corners of the frame. Image quality is simply awesome. 5 stars for that...!! I tried this tiny lens on my D5100 , setting up the aperture f11 and set up soft box flashes. The result was awesome and unbelievable image quality.. i couldn't even find a noise/spot even zoomed the pic in to maximum level. I took another pic using Canon 5D Mark II with 24-105mm f 2.8 lens, keeping the aperture f11,still the Nikon image was outstanding...!! From my personal experience, i could say this is the best , sharper, faster (thanks to SWM mechanism) Nikor lens which comes for a nominal price.
