Works fine with 2G/3G, Unlocked ModemsMar 06, 2014I had been searching internet, reading reviews of buyers since last 2 and half month, in search of a good 3G/4G Wi-Fi router. Finally my search comes to an end and I found this Quality Product i.e. TP-Link MR 3220.
Questions that were swinging around (Like everybody has) before buying this product were -
Q.1) Whether it will work with 2G, (For regions where there is no 3G available)?
Ans. 1) Yes It will work with 2G , I have checked with all operators in my Town.
Q.2) Whether it will work with Unlocked Data Cards?
Ans. 2) Yes It will, as I am using Huawei 1732 unlocked Data Card, But the condition is that your Data Card must be in the list of supported Modems provided on TP-Link's official website.
Q.3) Whether it will work with Low strength 3G signals?
Ans.3) There is no direct 3G signals available in my town, in order to catch these I have to put my Huawei E1732 data card out of my room's window with the help of a long USB Cable and even though I hardly get 19-32 % of Signals only, but even with such lower strength signals it works fine.
Q.4) What would be the range?
Ans.4) Range is decent with this Single antenna router. I have placed my router on 2nd floor and I'm able to receive good Signal (2 out of 3 bars at first floor and 1 out of 3 bars at ground floor). Surprisingly I'm able to get 1 bar at approx 30 meter distance but there is only one 9 inch wall in between. For much better Range Choose MR 3420 model which comes with two antennas. After all You are not supposed to cover the whole city with just one or Two antennas: P
Enjoy
Trick: How to make it work on 2G?
1st connect your Data Card to your Laptop PC/Desktop and open Mobile Partner (In my case its Mobile Partner as I'm using Huawei Data Card) or Choose according to Your Data Card Manufacturer.
2nd Now go to Network settings and Select GSM only, wait until you get 2G signals in your Laptop, now remove your Data Card and Insert it in to the 3G/4G router.
3rd Open TP-Link Web management interface in Your Laptop Browser. (Follow The provided Manual with Router). Go to Network then click on 3G/4G and there click on Advanced Settings and then just setup Your ISP manually, Mean put the desired access point, dialing no. etc according to your Telecom Operator.
Hope This Will Help Enjoy 2er.jaisingh
