About the Author
Coleman Barks is renowned over the world for his interpretation of Rumi's poetry. He was born in Tennessee in 1937. He does not speak Persian yet he is an interpreter of not only Rumi's poetry but also of other Persian poets. He has taught literature in the University of Georgia for more than 30 years. He is himself a poet and composes poems regularly. Barks has published several volumes of his own poetry, including Gourd Seed, "Quickly Aging Here", Tentmaking, and, in 2001, Granddaughter Poems, a collection of Coleman's poetry about his granddaughter, Briny Barks, with illustrations by Briny. Harper published his first book of poetry, The Juice, in 1972
