The Armed Forces have always been held in high regard by the Indian populace. They have inspired millions of stories of heroism and bravery. However, they have barely found any coverage in the contemporary accounts of Indian history after independence. In this book, serving Air Vice Marshal Arjun Subramaniam tries to recount the bravery displayed by the armed forces on the battlefield over the years. He starts off with a brief view of the origins of the Indian Armed Forces as we know it today and goes on to cover the major conflicts that arose between 1947 and 1971. Recorded in this book are several incidents, including the first India-Pakistan war of 1947 & 1948, the liberation of the princely states of Hyderabad and Junagarh, the liberation of Goa from the hands of the Portuguese in 1961, and the major wars against China and Pakistan over the years.
