Learn the 3 Golden Rules of Politeness

Learn the 6 Principles of Polite Speaking

Learn how showing respect can improve your interpersonal relations

Course Description

Learning the art of polite speaking can help you get better results at work and in business situations. Non-native English speakers (Intermediate and above) should take this course to learn how to speak politely in English.

This course is unique because it helps you learn how to express yourself politely in formal situations. As well as introducing you to a number of useful phrases we use to express politeness, the course also introduces you to politeness theory in an accessible and practical way. The course focuses on spoken communication.

Many non-native - and indeed native -speakers of English use an informal register in spoken communication when it is more appropriate to use a more formal register. This course shows you how to speak politely in formal situations.

When we express ourselves in a polite way, we show respect towards our conversational partners. Showing respect towards people is extremely important in a number of formal situations, such as job interviews and business meetings.

People want to be respected; they want to feel free to make their own decisions, and they want to save face.
