Nutmeg has adrenal cortex-like activity, which helps support the adrenal glands for increased energy. Historically it has been known to benefit circulation, muscles, joints, arthritis, gout, muscular aches, and pains, rheumatism, flatulence, indigestion, sluggish digestion, nausea and helps fight bacterial infection. It helps to support the nervous system to overcome frigidity, impotence, neuralgia and nervous fatigue. Nutmeg blends well with clove, cinnamon, vanilla and orange. Nutmeg has been credited with the ability to ease stress and tension. It is said to be very calming. When diffused before bedtime, nutmeg is said to promote dreamtime. Due to its strong aroma and potency, pure essential oil of nutmeg should be used very sparingly and should never be applied to the skin undiluted. Both oils and oleoresin are used in most major food categories, including alcoholic and soft drinks. CAUTION : Use in limited quantities, as it is very stimulating. Is generally non-toxic, non-irritant and non-sensitizing. However, used in large doses it shows signs of toxicity such as nausea, stupor, and tachycardia, believed to be due to the myristcin content.
