Born on 27th September 1932 Yash Chopras journey from the lush green fields of Punjab - which keep reappearing in his movies in all their splendour - to the very highest echelons of the Hindi Film industry has been as magical as any of his 40 movies. Yash Chopra started out as an assistant to his brother B.R. Chopra and went to direct 5 very successful films for his brothers banner. But his greatest repertoire of work has been around the 40 films made under the banner that he launched - the banner that stands for the best of Hindi Cinema -YASH RAJ FILMS. Out of these films he has directed 12 himself and these films have defined much of the language of Hindi movies as we know them today - especially romantic picture. Even after seven decades his vitality and creativity remain undiminished and a new Yash Chopra film continues to remain the most anticipated event in the film calendar of India. For Indians of every age Hindi cinema means Yash Chopra and Yash Chopra means Hindi cinema. Yash Raj films has also become a hotbed of grooming new talent the most significant of whom is Yash Chopras own son the director Aditya Chopra. He was born in 1971 and became an avid film buff from his early childhood. His own film career kicked off as an assistant to his father in Chandni, Lamhe and Darr. By the time he was 23 Aditya was ready to direct his first film with the active encouragement of his father. Released on 20th October 1995. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (The Braveheart will take the Bridge -1995) became not just one of the largest grosser in Indian film history ever but a landmark in Indian cinema - the longest running movie in Indian Cinema history it is still running theatrically - around 15 years & more than 750 weeks after it was originally released. He was responsible for the story screenplay & dialogue in addition to the direction. He won every conceivable award for this film including the National Award for the Best Film for providing Popular & Wholesome Entertainment. Aditya followed up the incredible sucess of DDLJ by writing the screenplay and dialogues of Dil To Pagal Hai directed by Yash Chopra. It was one of the most successful films of the year winning him Indias most respected award - the Filmfare Award. for Best Diaglogue. Aditya Chopras second film as a director Mohabbatein (Love Stories -2000) was a worthy successor to his first film and was one of the top grossing films of the year. In 2004 he also co-produced and wrote the story screenplay & dialogues of Veer -Zaara (Veer and Zaara) -directed by Yash Chopra. It was once again the biggest grossing film of the year. It helped him garner more Filmfare Award glory this time for Best Story and Best Dialogue In 2008 Aditya Chopras third directorial venture after eight years. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (A Match Made in Heaven) was released. It has been the higheest grossing film of all time for both YRF and Indias superstar Shahrukh Khan. Aditya Chopra along with his father Yash Chopra was voted as the most Powerful person in the Indian Entertainment business for two years in a row in a poll conducted by Filmfare in 2005 and 2006.
