Some people are interested in reading about the life of great personalities. For them, the biographies are the best way of meeting their reading requirements. In the book, The Man Who Knew Infinity, we get to know about the life of the great mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan. This book has been published under the banner of Little, Brown Book Group publishing house.
Synopsis
The Man Who Knew Infinity is one of the most popular books that have been published in the category of biographies. This book tells us about the life story of the mathematical genius. He was an Indian but his talents were finally recognised when he went to Europe. Ramanujan was born in a very poor Indian Brahmin family in Madras (Chennai), India. His parents were financially unable to support him after his initial schooling. He married at a very young age. The author does not stop with focusing on the protagonist, but also acquaints the world with the canons that guide the Indian society
The author takes the readers through how, after writing to many mathematicians and several failed attempts to make himself heard, luck finally aided Ramanujan when G.H. Hardy, an English mathematician, realised his gift. Ramanujan received a scholarship to continue with his study and research in the field of Pure Mathematics. Hardy managed to take him to England, where Ramanujan worked closely with him and other Cambridge mathematicians.
