WD My Passport 500 GB (Black)

ok !! firstly the big cunfusion that arrives in INDIAN customers after filtering out other brands for the same segment drives is SEAGATE and this WD !! guys the shop keeper suggests seagate cz its waranty procedure is easier in cities other tahn metros !

i have used both any day WD is better this particualt passport is actually wallet sized (not bluffing.......) thin sleek fast comes with a faily long data cable around 13 inches quite in working
has a backup software inside !!

buffalo ministation is also a good ALTERNATIVE but this is better in RW speeds !

go for this i hv used seagate and buffalo and this now i m using !

certainly better !
snapdeal is cheaper than flipkart on this model plus a freebie !

Ok this is my 2nd review for this product after a hard hit. Please beware of the data cable that is being provided with this product. If it is as thick as the "Monitor to CPU" wire, then you are in serious trouble. Initially I was provided with one such usb 3.0 cable which got disconnected on even a feather touch. Most of the time this will be annoying. After 3 months of usage, while transferring data from my HDD to a pendrive, due to a very very slight disturbance, the HDD got disconnected. That's it. The rest of the problem are as follows:
i) Your HDD gets corrupted
ii) Your recycle bin in ur HDD gets corrupted.
iii) Sectors get damaged in ur HDD.
iv) Data loss
After downloading n number of softwares/utilities for Hard disk and going through so many forums, I fixed the missing sectors (not the damaged ones) in the HDD and made it detectable in the PC. As a result of this I lost over 150 GB of personal data out of 500 GB and took backup and formatted the drive. Formatting the drive will only make your drive re-usable but the bad sectors will still be present. Since the warranty was for 3 years, I reached the WD hotline for replacement and got it replaced and this time I got a good and decent thin data cable. Original HDD is a "Product of Thailand" and the one replaced is "Recertified in Malaysia". One major drawback is the replaced WD harddrive has got only 90 days of warranty. Be careful when u use the HDD and keep the surrounding clear without any disturbance. Datas once lost, gone forever. My rating this time will be 4.

wait for some indian festivals and u will get at a better price

I'm using it for the past one week. The Speed is very good. I've used it in USB 2.0 only. Average Speed is 25 MB/s. I've not yet tested it in USB 3.0 I hope It'll give better speed in USB 3.0

Till now it is not getting heated after hours of usage. The size is very small. It can fit into your pant pocket.Easy to use. Definitely i'll recommend this product to everyone.

I have ordered this device via Snapdeal and received in 4 days! The product is nice and handy. Below are my observations about this product.

1) Device is really small, handy and (almost) noiseless --> Wonderful!
2) Actual available storage is 1.81 TB (approx. 1853.44 GB) --> Around 194.56 GB Loss :( But its OK
3) Software is easy to install. But need little techie knowledge to use. (not 100% user friendly) --> Doesn't Matter much as we can learn it!
4) When HDD is connected, windows takes much time to search the drivers --> Issue of Windows ??
4) It took approx. 5 Hrs 45 Mins to transfer 225GB data via USB 2 port. --> In my sense its good speed for USB2!
5) Transfer cable is too shoft --> Bigger is better! but is not here...

Note that, I have connected this HDD to laptop having below configuration.
Processor - 2GHz Core2Duo
OS - Windows Vista Home Premium
RAM - DDR2 3GB
USB version - 2

But, overall I am very happy with this product and would definitely recommend it to all my friends.

This product have the special feature of locking the whole hard disk with password which is great.
USB 3.0 is great
File transfer rate is very good.
Easy to use & Easy to carry.
If possible please provide a safety carrying pouch for it.

The delivery was quick.. The product was compact.. wonderful.. really good for the price.. now i got 500+ movies in this Hard disk and still more than half space left !! The only dissapointment I had was the data transfer speed.. Since my usb port being 1.1 the transfer rate ranges between 4 mbps to 20 mbps and ofcourse this has nothing to do with the WD passport. Overall a great product !! Highly recommended..!!!

An amazing 1TB external drive for which I got an amazing deal on Snapdeal, that too with a freebie!!!

The drive is one of the best external drives and additionally comes with hardware based on-drive encryption. Completely silent, fast and doesn't get even warm on prolonged usage. Sturdy attractive outer case (although don't drop it!) with very good feet which means the drive doesn't slip even on a slippery surface.

The software suite is also very good with drive diagnostics, encryption, auto-unlocker, quick view and backup software.

The only gripe I have is the cable which is very short. And no scheduled backup in the software, although you can use Windows in built backup which is anyways better.

WD is good product to trust for external disks and found reliable.

Very good product @ a very reasonable price.

Only negative thing which I noticed is the data transfer speed.
I never got the speeds mentioned in the site and in the user manual. Below is the speed which I got

No problem with the service from Snapdeal. Got delivered before the delivery date.
No problem with the product. Even with my USB 2.0 laptop, it starts with a speed of around 60 Mbps. Then keeps on reducing and finaly becomes stable between 20 to 30 Mbps depending on the type of files i am copying.

I used the product to backup my code and software. It is easy to use and stable. The USB cable fits in nicely at both ends and I didn't find any issues with it. Only problem I encountered was that it couldn't be used with MAC as it is formatted for windows
