Those who wish to pursue the subject, or any part of it, into more detail, will find an index to the best books in my numerous foot-notes, and in the notes at the ends of the chapters. Our anglo-indian literature is so very ex tensive that I could not attempt anything like a complete index; but the young student will find the notes useful in this way, and to the more experienced reader they will show my sources of information, and serve to test the accuracy or general fidelity with which I have followed my authorities.
