Description

ABOUT THE BOOK

A young man’s journey from the village to the capital, from poverty to empowerment In February 2016, Kanhaiya Kumar, then president of the JNU Students’ Union, was arrested on charges of sedition and locked up in Tihar jail. He came out of the crisis as a young political face, dubbed by the BBC as ‘India’s most loved and loathed student’. This is his story – from his childhood in rural Bihar, his college days in Patna, to life as a poor, struggling student in Delhi. And it is told in his extraordinary voice – colorful, witty and acute. From Bihar to Tihar is one of the most unusual memoirs produced in the country – in writing about his life, Kanhaiya has given voice to a generation of young small-town and rural Indians.
