Synopsis
In the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck, the author explores the changing relationships as they grow and make new relationships. Greg, the protagonist, who feels alienated from his family, is further isolated when his best friend abandons him for his new girlfriends. The story moves through phases, depicting Greg’s shifting relationships with the different people who try to befriend him. A search to a deceased great grandmother’s ring runs through the story as an undercurrent, until the plot comes to a happy ending with the friends reuniting and Greg discovering the elusive ring. The last scene of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck depicts the friend running to escape persecution from a common foe, denoting that normalcy has returned.
