why is USB required? How to configure the device?

USB is required to power your Chromecast dongle. If you don't have a USB port on your TV, you can use the power cord given and power it through external source. Once the device is powered up and is connected to the TV using HDMI, you can configure it using your Android phone.

Device has two ports. one is HDMI port and other is Micro USB port. HDMI port fits into TV and Micro USB port powers it just like you put the charging cable in your phone. . There is instruction manual in the box, just go to that link and enter your wifi details and you are good to go. And dont forget to download the Chromecast app from Play Store. Now enjoy the internet from your phone on TV.
