Born in the year 1928, Bipan Chandra was a renowned historian of pre and post-independence India. A professor of Modern History at one of the best universities in India – Jawaharlal Nehru University, Bipan Chandra was a specialist in economic and political history of modern India. In addition, he was considered to be one of the best scholars on Mahatma Gandhi. In the year 2010, the Government of India awarded him with the country’s third highest civilian award – the Padma Bhushan. He died in the year 2014.
