Excerpt from Irish Landed Gentry
In the Books of Survey and Distribution (to which we shall pre sently refer, ) may be seen the names and addresses of the Forfeited Proprietors of the Commonwealth period, in any of the counties of Ireland; together with the names of the persons to whom those forfeited Estates or portions of them were then conveyed. As (see p. 1) the. Books of Survey and Distribution embrace twenty large Volumes, it would be impossible for us to give their contents in this Work; but (see p. 469) the Paper No. 21 in the Appendix gives a clear idea of the nature of the information which those important Volumes contain. The reader who wishes to consult any of those Volumes, or any other Volume, Will, Record, or Document deposited in the Public Record Office, Dublin, can there do so on payment of the small fee of one shilling.
In the Paper N o. 20 in the Appendix, p. 452, we give The names in the Grants under the Acts of Settlement and Explanation (1661-1665) and (see p. In the Paper No. 19, we give a brief Abstract of the Enactments contained in those Acts.
