Not a Great Phone
by james johnson on Dec 29, 2014

It does Have good looks..means nice display..touch is good. camera not that great a slight bluish tint it has..low light photography is good though..recent call list not that great..hard to search for contacts from recent call list..Not all android apps are compatible..doesn't have a file explorer..the available file explorer in jolla store,if not properly used can accidentally delete files inside your root directory.. above all it doesent come with a recovery menu similar to android, which is way too easy...here you have to download putty and connect using telnet to port 10.42.66.66 and there comes the recovery...my phone was turned off during automatic update through air and the phone end in boot loop..have to go through the procedure jolla mentioned and it helped me save my phone..here we dont have any service center in kerala...above all it does have issue with wifi too..like if u add a wifi network, next time when u turn-on wifi,it wont automatically detect the wifi-network,which i have added...

Amazing Phone and Sailfish OS
by gar on Dec 21, 2014

From user's perspective: This phone's gesture based control is very nice: Whenever you need to go to home screen, simply swipe from right edge to left. When you want to look at the notifications, swipe from the bottom edge to top. It also provides LED notifications to know about the missed calls and unread messages. For diagnostic tests, it provides an application, which can be started by dialling in *#*#310#*#* or by typing in csd command from the terminal. Native applications are few, but they are good enough. For those of you who wants android applications, it is possible to run those using android support. If you want more applications, enable developer mode and install the warehouse application from openrepos.net. From developer's perspective: Once the developer mode is activated, it provides us with a terminal. (We need to register with jolla for that) Then we can log in to the phone with ssh (sshd will be running in the phone) All the terminal commands available in any linux based OS is available in Sailfish too. We may also install gcc, g++, gdb and develop terminal based programs, so it's very good for automating our tasks! We are not forced to use java to write our applications like in android, which is the reason I never owned an android device. We can also use filezilla for transferring files using ssh. Buy if you know how to code
by Shrinath on Dec 01, 2014

If like minimalism and a new approach to new mobile devices, this is the phone. If you are new to smart phones and do not know how to code, then you are better off with the big manufacturers. Navigation is based on gestures. This means that you have contact with the screen and many functions happen depending the gesture used on the screen real estate. After initial hiccups, these gestures become extremely natural. The processor is dated. But the OS is extremely robust. Which means that future devices will have superior performance compared to the Android or Windows OS counterparts. Camera is average. Shoots clear images under optimum lighting. Forget shooting in the night. Images will have noise. Has access to Google Play market. Has an Android Engine so most Android apps will run. The GPS in the device is the best I have seen in a mobile device. Here Maps are available on the Jolla Store. Free. Conclusion: As my title says, if you know how to code and love tinkering with the software then this is the device for you. You can tinker with the Hardware too. By way of The Other Half. Not for generic mobile users.

Too many bugs for a primary phone
by Selvam on Nov 30, 2014

I have been using Jolla for the past 3 months and during that time would have encountered at least a dozen bugs/issues all of which could have been identified with a proper testing cycle. The phone looks solid with an interesting UI but that's where the good part stops - the camera is sub-optimal (much worse than my several year old iPhone 4), email app hangs regularly, calendar does not sync fully with Google Calender, contacts do not show up properly, etc. I will not recommend this phone - especially at this price.

Good phone with different perspective
by vk on Nov 27, 2014

I borrowed the phone from friend and used for sometime. Though it was difficult, never mind changing is inevitable. We can get used to it in an hours time ;) I always wanted a phone that would show the wallpaper, mingle it with all apps so that using the phone does not get bored. Yes whatever wallpaper you use it is coming as a hazy background in almost all app. That is interesting part of the phone I like most. Its very innovative. If this OS was released before android, I bet nobody would even take a second look at any OS. Those who compare it with Android or iOS or windows, please think. Android was way buggy at first. Windows as well was buggy. But this is far more than those OS. It is marvelous for first time and one of its kind. Its fluid interface and a different OS, seems like having fresh air when I worked on the phone.

Simply great

Loved the new UI. After a months use I find it much more easier to use than the other phones in the market. Battery lasts for upto 2 days with normal use. Recharges are fast - within an hour and a half. I can access my core set of apps with a swipe or two at the most. Screen transitions are smooth despite the middle of the road hardware. Camera is good enough for most occassions. The native Sailfish OS apps gets most of my tasks done with live feedback on the 'Home' pane. Android app compatibility via the provided third party stores, or by installing Google play provides access to the scores of other apps that some would want to install. What I miss is a compatible screen protector and a back panel skin or sticker. Mine was the standard white other half, that tended to get dirty in a few spots. I overcame this by fixing a few smiley face stickers on the back panel. That was some customisation that my friends liked :) I didnt get the free other half pack with my order and was disappointed with missing out on that. The other disappointment was that the phone did not come with earphones and also lacks FM radio capability to tune into local radio stations. The experience for me would have been complete if these were part of the deal. Still feel that this is a great phone worth its price. It definitely is not for the ones who expect the normal experience.
