Description

Do - It - Yourself Kit to understand a localized electric current induced in a conductor by a varying magnetic field. This kit helps to understand Ohm's law which is the most important, basic law of electricity. It defines the relationship between the three fundamental electrical quantities: current, voltage, and resistance. When a voltage is applied to a circuit containing only resistive elements (i.e. no coils). Features : An eddy current brake, like a conventional friction brake, is a device used to slow or stop a moving object by dissipating its kinetic energy as heat. Eddy current wil help kids to understand disc brakes in the vehicles like bikes and trains. Also types of brakes are used in the fast running vehicles and trains and how brakes are applied. HOW IT WORKS First you will observe that without aluminum disc the rod moves freely for with greater speed and does not stop for long time. Whereas, by placing the Aluminum metal disc below it, the rod moves with less swings and gets stops after a while. WHY: This happens because of the eddy current. Now the question arises, what are eddy currents? Eddy currents are the currents created when a conductor experiences changes in the magnetic field. If either the conductor is moving through a steady magnetic field or the magnetic field is changing around a stationary conductor, eddy current is produced because of electromagnetic induction. In our project the second case is applied i.e. the magnetic field is changing around a stationary conductor .In our project, Aluminum disc is the conductor and the magnetic field of the cylindrical magnet continuously changes with the motion of the magnet. As a result electric current is produced. The eddy current generates an opposing magnetic field which resists the rotation or the swing, providing a break force. Thus motion of the magnet stops. The framework is made of Plastic Material and other handmade parts. This product is designed for a demonstration purpose and single use. Apply your creativity while assembling. Assembly manual is provided with the kit. The project is for demonstration and informational purposes only. All of Junior Scientist products are unique and handmade. We work by designs and Endeavour to create like products. However the very nature of being individually designed by hand gives raw finishing of the projects since it should look that students have created on its own.
