Unlike conventional amps that contain individual PWM modulators and ICs mounted separately, our new Class-D amplifiers integrate those capabilities in the more compact form of a single newly developed IC with built-in PWM modulator. Class-D amplifiers overcome the inefficiencies of traditional Class-A or AB amplifiers. Pioneer's Class-D amps transform very little power into heat so a higher percentage of the power supply is transformed into the load. This results in a very compact amp which needs less input power to produce very high output power.
More conventional Class-D amplifiers have had advantages in energy efficiency and compactness, but not sound quality. They have been useful mainly for sound pressure-oriented subwoofers. So Pioneer devised new circuitry, carefully selected electronic parts and provided for more fine-tuned acoustic capabilities for its new Class-FD amplifiers. This results in high-quality, clearly localized sound throughout the full frequency spectrum from a more compact amplifier.
