Description

In the 1947 massacre 5-10 lakh people were killed, lakhs were raped, crores of people were left homeless, they had to leave behind their homes, land, shops and become a refugee in another land. Young an old were insulted by followers of great religion. Mahatma Gandhi and Mohammad Jinnah both supported partition inorder to bring peace to the subcontinent. But even after partition the problem did not go away. Instead India and Pakistan have seen 3-4 skirmishes along the border, both nations own nuclear arsenal. Despite partition the mayhem continues. It is important that instead of what happened we examine why this happened so we can look for solution to the present problems that beset India – Pakistan. Instead of Indian History being written through the eyes of the British, this is an account of 1947 by an India Historian. There are many reasons for partition but the main point is that Shaukat Hayat, MumtazDaulatana, Nawab of Mamdaut had usurped the League in Punjab. There is a dangerous nexus between landowners – soldier- officer-politician. It was present in 1947 too.
