Description

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Johanna Louise Spyri was a Swiss-born author of novels, notably children's stories, and is best known for her book Heidi. Born in Hirzel, a rural area in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland, as a child she spent several summers near Chur in Graubünden, the setting she later would use in her novels. This region was overlooking the Lake of Zurich with stunning views of the Alps. Her love of homeland, feeling for nature, unobtrusive piety, and cheerful wisdom gave both her work and her life their unique quality. Her psychological insight into the child’s mind, her humour, and her ability to enter into childish joys and sorrows gave her books appeal and lasting value. After her marriage in 1852 to Bernhard Spyri, a lawyer engaged in editorial work, she moved to Zürich. She and her husband continued to mix with literary and artistic people in Zurich where Johanna lived after her marriage and for the rest of her life.

About the Author

ABOUT THE BOOK:- Heidi is a classic work of children's fiction written by Swiss author Johanna Spyri, originally published in two parts as Heidi: Her Years of Wandering and Learning and Heidi: How She Used What She Learned. It is one of the best-selling books ever written and is among the best-known works of Swiss literature. It was written as a book "for children and those who love children". The key points of the novel are as follows: Originally written in German, Heidi was later translated into more than 50 languages. Its popularity rests, in part, on the heart-warming story, as well as Spyri’s vivid descriptions of the mountain pastures, Grandfather’s cabin, and Heidi’s simple life. The novel lets children be children, away from the restraints of adult rules. The huge success of the book is perhaps because Heidi faces some of the most basic and important issues of life - the individual versus society, wealth and poverty, sickness and health, etc.
