Description

Letters From A Stoic: Epistulae Morales Ad Lucilium speaks extensively on the principles of stoicism, which was a path-breaking school of philosophy that was founded by Zeno in the fourth century B.C.
Summary Of The Book
Stoicism is the core theme of Letters From A Stoic: Epistulae Morales Ad Lucilium and the author speaks at length about the belief system that came into being in the fourth century B.C. Stoicism encourages its followers to stay away from reacting spontaneously, according to their instincts. Instead, it proposes that those who follow this belief must stop complaining about their problems or reacting to them, and must learn to endure them throughout life.
The Stoic belief system did not gain much popularity till the time Seneca came to the forefront. Seneca was able to bring about several radical reforms in this belief system, which caused it to become immensely popular.
Stoicism gained momentum at a time in history when Rome was making its painful transition from paganism to Christianity. This belief system advocates the importance of living a virtuous life, and this helped it become very popular, especially at that point of time in the history of Rome. The Stoics were also very expressive in their views on the ill treatment of slaves. They voiced their disgust rather openly against such injustice, and this caused the belief system to become even more popular than before. One of the most remarkable features of the movement was that it helped to establish the dignity of the mind of an individual, which was indeed commendable. Letters From A Stoic: Epistulae Morales Ad Lucilium details the life and ideologies of Stoics.
