To her utter surprise Nirmala finds out after marriage that her husband is widowed and has three sons. The eldest of the sons is almost of the same age as Nirmala. She goes through a lot of pain and patience to cope up with this weird situation and accept her awful destiny. It takes a lot of time for her to accept her step children as her own but at last her materialistic instincts take her over and she slowly starts feeling for her step children and finally begins to accept them as her own. She even tried to accept the old, bald headed person as her husband and the foul mouthed sister of her husband as her sister-in -aw. After some time, her husband starts suspecting that Nirmala is having an illicit affair with her eldest step son. You need to read the novel to know what happens next.
