In the far northern reaches of Bihar and in Nepal daughters are never named Sita for fear of theirstruggling, like her through life.

About the Author

Nabeena Srikanth, ne Nabeena Prasad was born in Chennai.She grew up in an extended family, constantly to the struggles of the women in her family. Raised as a typical Indian woman of the 80’s, she was married as soon as she settled into a promising career. After her marriage, she decided to quit her job as a programmer in favour of accompanying her husband abroad.Following his dream, they spent a few years in Germany before moving to the USA. Nabeena has lived in California for the past 25 years and has worked as an Interior Designer. Now that she has successfully raised her two children, she has chosen to pursue her own dream of writing.In India, Nabeena was almost always enrolled in a Christian mission school. She studied Sanskrit as her second languagein school and rained in the art of Carnatic music. Having livedthe greater half of her life outside India though, she has had to reach back to her origins for inspiration during her writing. In the light of, the recent discoveries in the world of archaeology,uncovering the ancient history of India, Nabeena has chosen to rewrite the Indian epics with a realistic twist. She foundexplaining Hindu culture to her kids to be quite a struggle, given that they were growing up in a society that did not fully appreciate or comprehend Indian culture. Her experience has helped her make the Hindu stories that she heard as a child more applicable to life’s challenges today, by removing the “God and Demon” effects from them. In her retelling of the story of Sita, Nabeena wishes to convey a perspective of how this tale might have played out in the ancient India.
